Walking in late on a Sunday night we located Siam Samrarn Thai Restaurant purely based on the the Zomato reviews. You walk in to initially to a well decorated Thai Restaurant with welcoming and pleasant staff. On the menu you are presented a vast array of dishes with different meat types and vegetarian options. The variety is ample and well separated within the menu. For our entree we tried the Chicken Satay skewers however were bitterly disappointed. They appeared a little undercooked and quite bland. The portion size is large however if you do choose to stay away from this particular dish you will definitely have a better dining experience. I had one and was unable to fully stomach it and we had to leave this dish to be collected uneaten. Though the coconut rice was absolutely delicious. That matched with Mussaman Beef Curry made a beautiful combination. The beef was cooked to absolute perfection and the curry was rich but not over-imposing and no flavour dominated to overpower the balance. That curry sauce placed on the rice alone was incredibly tasty! Our second main of choice was the Pad Siew for which we were left a little disappointed with. It was dry and the noodles were slightly bland. We did have this with vegetables which is probably not recommended and either beef or duck being a better option. The tofu was dry and a little overcooked also. The service was absolutely impeccable however and portion sizes and prices are extremely reasonable. Better than your classic local Thai restaurant but nothing here that blew you out of the water either.
Definitely my favourite Thai restaurant in inner-city Brisbane. Authentic decor and environment that is nostalgic of Thailand. Menu is extensive with authentic flavours of southern and northern Thai. Well priced, delicious meals served in substantial portions and great drinks and Thai dessert selection - their homemade deep fried coconut ice cream is amazing
Ok. The food was good. The service was typical of Thailand, not Australia. The waitresses did not seem overly enthused to be there and we had to wave them down whenever we wanted service. Corkage was absurd at $7 a bottle and we were charged for plastic containers to take our leftovers home, which i get, but maybe they should rethink how they convey it. The atmosphere and decor was really lovely considering they're right next door to a busy supermarket. Probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here again, but if you're a local maybe you'll feel differently.
Right away we knew it would be a nice dinner. The venue is alive and full of energy on a warm evening. Judging by the amount of patrons from all backgrounds it must be good food. That was a correct assumption. We both had a light dinner, small entrees (samosas, fish cakes) followed by large serves of soup (seafood tom yum, vegetable coconut soup) paired with Rose & Singa beer off tap. Plenty of flavour and the ingredients were fresh. Well sized portions and great service even with a full house. My only note would be if your not a true spicy fan, air on the side of caution. Medium is most people's hot or very hot in true Thai fashion. We enjoy the heat, so we were not bothered. Will be making more visits!
