The food and service is of the high quality that you would expect in the city of Melbourne. However, I would like to make a clear distinction with the afternoon music. Tuesday and Thursday are the days when it is worth going to this club. The pianist on both those days is a very friendly young man called Josh Cake. He has an encyclopaedic knowledge of music and can always play any request, across many decades. Whether I request Frank Sinatra or my daughter wants Fleetwood Mac, he will know the song and play it in a beautiful, soothing lounge style - and his piano playing across any genre is incredible. It is rare to see someone so perfectly in control of his instrument. On the other days, the music does not live up to the standard of Tuesday and Thursday. Wednesday is alright, Monday is okay, and especially Friday is best avoided. I imagine that the contrast must surely be a little embarrassing to the club - and I will usually go someplace else on those days. However, I am here every Tuesday and Thursday - which are turning out to be the consistent days to visit for many of my friends, due to the wonderful music that cannot be found anywhere else. I am very grateful that the Club has found such an amazing musician - I would like to request occasions to hear him more than just twice a week. Hearing him at lunch time on other days would be wonderful - and it would be even better to be able to have him for a dinner.
The experience you'll have here depends on which day you go. Lunch time on Tuesdays and Thursdays is heaven - classic tunes of the 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s played exquisitely by the pianist Josh. I have listened to music on many continents and never found so anything so satisfying and perfect. The other days are not so good. Monday and Wednesday are passable, Friday is loud and genuinely annoying. But Tuesday and Thursday and when Josh plays music. These are the days when my friends and I always come to the club. If you would like to hear beautiful music from our youth, the kind of music that we oldies cannot hear anywhere else, come to the club on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and this wonderful young man Josh will provide you with a beautiful selection that makes you feel young again. He takes requests too - he is not only more talented but so much more friendly and welcoming than the other musicians. In my experience, the most able musicians are often aloof - but here is an exception. At the RACV club, the most brilliant musician is the most personable, kind, and eager to satisfy requests. I would give the club 5 stars if they had Josh here every day. But they deserve 4 stars, just for having him two days of the week - a ridiculous decision when you consider just how strongly we patrons prefer him to all the other acts. I recommend Tuesdays and Thursday lunch times at the RACV club to anyone who is interested in a truly world-class experience, as you will hear Josh on those days, and he is truly extraordinary - the other days are nothing special.
All the facilities and food and drink and service are of a high quality, on the same level as other high-end hotels in the city. The factor that makes my friends, family, and I visit the club every week is to listen to the beautiful music of Josh Cake. The club has hired many musicians over the years, of varying standards - but he is the best musician I've heard in any hotel in more than 60 years. His music is tailored to the age and preferences of the clients of the club - a beautiful, relaxing, moving set of music that is the highlight of our week. He is on every Tuesday and Thursday, so we go only on these days. The other days are passable - Friday in particular is a lot of unpleasant noise with no melody - but he is the difference that makes us come to the club rather than any other lunch on Tuesday and Thursday. The other days are fine, but they're nothing special. Come to lunch on Tuesday and Thursday and you'll have an experience that stands out better than any other in Melbourne - a meal with the wonderful accompaniment of Josh Cake.
The club has a huge range of facilities, I have visited for lunch and also for events. Clean and comfortable building with a really nice welcoming style about it. Staff are always professional and the food is amazing. You can tell by the clientele that many are RACV customers (older in age) although there is a strong class of business folk that gravitate to the facilities.
What an absolute ripper. 1st class service from the moment ýou arrive from wait staff that know their job and are proud to excel in their role. Parking underneath made access so easy and reasonable rate too. Magnificent place to catch up with friends in a calm relaxed atmosphere the way restaurants used to be.
