About Knopwoods Retreat:

Knopwoods Retreat affectionately knows as Knoppies is one of Hobart’s and Tasmania’s most historic and popular watering holes having a well known reputation as being a Hobart institution.
Knopwoods has a perfect location sitting close to the waterfront where all the fishing yachts are moored, located facing the Famous Salamanca Saturday markets and right in the Hub of Salamanca, Tasmania’s most visited tourist destination. New Years Eve and Christmas Eve draws huge crowds due to the finale of the Sydney and Hobart yacht race, the taste of Tasmania and many other activities that go on in the waterfront area.
Aside from Knopwoods perfect location it also makes up a significant part of Hobart’s history which is depicted throughout the pub. Knopwoods has been a tavern since the 1830’s. Retaining the history of the hotel has been a major contributing factor to the hotels success being the only pub on the waterfront to retain its original look.
The hotel appeals to an enormous cross section of clientele from business people, and working class through to students. During the summer months the out side seating and location sees crowds spilling out into Salamanca and in winter our log fire creates atmosphere and comfort that has been related to peoples own lounge room.
We offer a wide range of beer on tap from a few boutique beers through to our locally known and award winning beers. There is a variety of wines gluhwein and mead offered for sale along with a great selection of great package products. Food is available Monday to Friday with nothing over $15.00 making it the perfect place for business people to come for a quick lunch.
