Irish Murphy's - Hobart Logo and Images

Irish Murphy's - Hobart

21 Salamanca Pl, Hobart City TAS 7000

Using as much local produce as possible, this Irish pub offers high quality, hearty pub meals. Creating a restaurant vibe in a raucous Irish pub is quite a task, but they pull it off rather well here with candlelit, linen-draped tables under dimmed lights. Try the pork scotch fillet wrapped in pancetta and stuffed with apple; or join the gnocchi fan club - the homemade gnocchi is served with tomato coulis, topped with pesto, kalamata olives and parmesan cheese.

Syrup Nightclub Logo and Images

Syrup Nightclub

39 Salamanca Pl, Hobart City TAS 7000

Situated about as far south as you can go in Australia, SYRUP NIGHTCLUB is the last hotspot before you reach Antarctica. And until they open a club down there on that frozen slab, SYRUP is 'The Nightclub at the end of the World'. Located above a certain famous corner pub, and spread over two floors of convict hewn sandstone and timber, this former Hotel/Brothel turned Pub turned Club has been a favourite place for locals and travellers since the 1800s.

Although having gone through some major internal refits over the past 100 years or so, the exterior looks much the same as it did when the Rev. Knopwood was slaking his thirst downstairs in the pub that now bears his name. The latest refit is a stunner and I'm sure The Reverend would agree.

New Sydney Hotel Logo and Images

New Sydney Hotel

87 Bathurst St, Hobart City TAS 7000

The hotel has been serving a steady stream of thirsty patrons since 1835. These venerable walls, which have seen generations of Hobartians amble in for their nightly pint, are swathed in a mish-mash of licence plates, Guinness posters and signs helpfully indicating the way to Donegal.

The New Sydney shuns such common pub accessories as TVs, jukeboxes and pool tables, instead entertaining the crowds with live music at least four nights a week. Tuesday might see a blues soloist crooning, while a jazz trio livens up every Sunday. Friday and Saturday nights pump to blasting rock covers.

The Ocean Child Hotel Logo and Images

The Ocean Child Hotel

86 Argyle Street, Hobart City TAS 7000

This old watering hole has been serving up beers for well over 100 years. It's seen a few sad days in the past, but the new owners are now refreshing its image.
This is a pub in transformation. The new owners are turning things around, so if you think you know the Ocean Child, do a quick double-take.
Sure, it may be called a child, but this place is really a golden oldie with plenty of history. Beer has been served here since 1844. However the venue has also endured some sad days of decline which followed on from its heyday period, when it was once one of Hobart's great live music venues.

Victoria Tavern Logo and Images

Victoria Tavern

30 Murray St, Hobart City TAS 7000

Located just down from Macquarie Street in the CBD. For all of those wanting a pub without the pokies here we are, instead we have live music and welcoming hospitality.  The Victoria Tavern has been allowed to remain gloriously old-fashioned, however there have been refurbishments and renovations. All in all, it's a warm and well-maintained space. During the daytime, the deep leather couch booths make a great spot to take a break from the city.
