A short walk from King Street, Newtown, the Imperial became famous when it was used as a backdrop for scenes in Priscilla Queen Of The Desert. It also featured in the Hugh Jackman film Erskineville Kings. The Imperial is a local institution - a friendly local pub and one of Sydney's most important gay and lesbian community venues. It has helped to raise over $1 million for charities including ACON and the Luncheon Club. Without the Imperial, these groups will be deprived of funds for essential services and campaigns.
Located in the small yet bustling suburb of Erskineville, we are a dynamic community space comprised of friendly staff and patrons, emerging art, varied musical experiences, recycled furnishings and tasty food and drinks all sourced with a view to minimising our environmental impact. Please look at our sustainability section as this is a large part of The Hive Bar philosophy.
The Hive bar is your bar – bring down your favourite records to our Wednesday night Vinyl Club or talk to us about exhibiting your artwork or creating a mural on one of our walls. Our goal is for our patrons to help build and shape the future of The Hive and to feel a sense of being at 'home' at the Hive.
Overlooking the leafy Harry Noble Park the new Swanson Hotel is a welcome addition to the burgeoning dining scene in the inner city and the colourful village atmosphere of Erskineville.
Formerly the Kurrajong Hotel, this old favourite has been taken over and undergone an extensive refurbishment by the Balmain Pub Group, known for the popular Riverview Hotel in Birchgrove and the Balmain Hotel in Balmain.
Under the guidance of former AHA chef of the year Brad Sloane, the Swanson Hotel has opened up level 1 for the first time with an 80 seat restaurant which includes a sleek new cocktail bar focusing on fresh, delicious cocktails, a private dining room and simple clean food with a gastro pub influence.
The ground floor features more casual style booth seating and offers simple delicious bar fare such as a Wagyu Burger, a Crispy Duck, Orange, Quinoa, Treviso & Pinenut Salad and Chicken Schnitzel’s. Pizzas are also made in house including gluten free pizzas, which are all on offer both day and night, and of course; we screen all the important games of the season, no matter your code.
