A rainy night in Sydney welcomed those who ventured outdoors yet once inside at The Metro Theatre, all awaited the great night of music ahead from popular band The Panics.
Ahead of the main act was Dead Letter Chorus, who brought to the stage their mix of folk-rock and the talented vocals of Gabrielle Huber and Cameron Potts. Lisa Mitchell and her band were next up on stage; the former Aussie Idol contestant changed the mood in the venue to more subdued and quiet, her style of indie-pop sometimes difficult to hear with her whispering voice – although the rest of the band seemed to be having fun as they sang their way through the set.
Once The Panics graced the stage, the crowd perked up again as they kicked off with the relaxed, soothing vocals of Jae Laffer accompanied by guitarist Drew Wootton. Most tracks played were off their Cruel Guards album, including Feeling Is Gone – most songs had the crowd dancing and singing along. Don’t Fight It and Get Us Home warmed the crowd, their sound much bigger than you’d imagine – their country wide tone is no doubt driven by the humble yet encompassing quality of Wootton’s guitar.
