Brian McFadden Has Come A Long Way Since His Westlife Days …

He experienced international fame as one of the original members of the boy band Westlife from 1998 to 2004 – Irish pop/rock singer/songwriter Brian McFadden’s passion for making music is increasingly popular and invigorating, especially since progressing with his solo career.

Brian was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1980 and throughout his younger years was always interested in singing, dancing and football; along with his sister Susan, he attended the ‘Billie Barry Stage School’ in Dublin which led to stage and TV roles. Brian started a pop and R&B flavoured group with his mates Tim and Darragh in 1998 called Cartel and they performed in pubs around Dublin.

“I admire artists like George Michael who had the guts to establish their own identity in the business and that’s what I aspire to do.” … Brian McFadden

McFadden was one of the five young men assembled by A&R executive Simon Cowell and in 1998 the phenomenally successful boy band Westlife was born – Westlife sat alongside U2 as the most successful music act to ever come out of Ireland and hold the record for the most number one singles in a row on the UK charts ever – seven. During the group’s reign five albums were released – Westlife (1999), Coast To Coast (2000), World Of Our Own (2001), Unbreakable: The Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 (2002) and Turnaround (2003) – all of which went multi-platinum and hit #1 on the Irish album charts. In addition, the group produced many hit singles world-wide including Swear It Again, If I Let You Go, Flying Without Wings, I have A Dream/Seasons In The Sun, Fool Again, Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now), My Love, Uptown Girl, Queen Of My Heart, World Of Our Own, Unbreakable and Mandy.

Brian thought it was time to go his own way and in 2004 left Westlife and released his full-length solo album debut, Irish Son that failed to match the success of Westlife but sold well nonetheless, spawning a few major hit singles: Real To Me, Irish Son and Almost Here, a duet with Delta Goodrem (#1 in Ireland and Australia, #2 in Denmark and #3 in the UK). As a songwriter, Brian continued to write songs for artists as varied as Il Divo and Girls Aloud, as well as co-writing the theme, Together We Are One for the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

“I am proud of my past, but I’m really excited about my future.” … Brian

As a solo artist Brian has truly found his voice, producing lyrically mature and perceptive music combining energy and passion – he’s been able to take risks and experiment with his new sound that has been influenced by a whole range of different bands and groups. He’s stated, “I really like Maroon 5 and Snow Patrol at the moment; I have always been into guitar stuff, from Bryan Adams to Nirvana.”

Brian has been linked romantically with a number of ladies during his music career and dated Aqua singer, Lene Nystrom Rasted and S Club 7 singer Hannah Spearritt; he married UK television presenter and former pop singer with the girl band Atomic Kitten, Kerry Katona in January 2002. The couple had two daughters together, Molly Marie and Lilly-Sue but separated in 2004 and eventually divorced in December 2006. McFadden now has a new love interest in singer/actress Delta Goodrem. Their relationship blossomed after his marriage breakup as Delta ‘helped him’ get over the pain; the two shared many long phone calls until Delta relocated from Australia to the UK to live with the Irish star. In November 2007 Brian announced his engagement to Goodrem after proposing to her on a trip to Bali.

Brian will be doing some ‘Live & Twisted’ shows around Sydney and Melbourne during August, and then will embark on a full National tour in October. If you’re a fan of Brian’s infectious and endearing music, be sure not to miss him!
